‘Tis the Season for Christmas markets! I love the feeling of dressing warm and strolling through a busy market lit with fairy lights and full of Christmas cheer. The already beautiful Distillery District with its historic buildings and cobblestone streets transforms into the Toronto Christmas Market and becomes so magical.
It was even more magical because we got in for free on a Saturday when the lineup was wrapped around the building and the cost was $6 and $20 for an express entrance. We were originally going to just grab a couple of express tickets and get in to the market, since I took the day off work to finally have a date night. But the joy of Christmas began when a lovely man had around 6 free express tickets and was just handing them out right when we were about to buy! We were lucky!
Here’s a few snaps of a much-needed, Christmassy date night.
Brick Street Bakery you guys. Full of sweet treats, baked goods, coffee and hot chocolate. We grabbed a delicious carrot loaf, hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and whipped cream and scored a free mint nanaimo bar (the lady slightly dropped it onto the shelf, so we just told her we would take it before she tried to throw it out. I mean it wasn’t even broken or dirty). Lucky again!
After walking through the market and taking pictures and enjoying the voices of Carollers, I decided I wanted another warm beverage and we stopped by Balzac’s Coffee Roastery so I could grab a latté. It was packed in there and as a barista, I definitely sympathized with the staff there.
I had a great time and might make this more of an annual tradition! Let me know in the comments, what are your favourite Christmas traditions or Christmassy things to do?
